Mihnea came over last weekend to swap his turbo`s. Together with Jeffer and myself we started this nice job. I`ll post the pictures of our experiences because they tell more than a 1000 words
First we got the engine out wich was a real nice job.
Wow, thanks Cees. I too have to thank you, Jeffer and Hans for the awesome motoring weekend and for all the help, we had a really good laugh swapping my turbos+clutch/aluminium flywheel, the car is doing great now.
I have logged 340 PS last night on the way back, had a little blast on a private testing track located somewhere between Holland and Belgium and got 285km/h (178 mph) GPS speed out of the beast, so it's all good again!!!!
Goddamn K03 hairdryers with their frickin illnesses, can't wait till I get my big *** hybrids on the new engine....
By the looks of it, I think the turbo's shaft had a manufacturing defect on it since the beginning, and of course putting more straiin on it because of tuning it didn't really help and got it to fail prematurely. I have spent the whole night searching forums for K03 failures on S4s (and there's loads of them, 80% of all S4s running around the world have swapped turbos at least once, the luckiest of them have done it under warranty), and I haven't found a single failure similar to mine yet....
Cheers again for the help from the High Octane team, they are good guys, really know their stuff and how to work around problems and on top of all that, they are real Audi enthusiasts!!!

Well, unfortunately, one of my K04 turbos is still stuck in Wales for some reason, and has been for the last 2 months now, so it had to be stock turbos (updated version from a late model S4) to get me running. Dumping 2 liters of oil in the exhaust every 200 miles is definitely not good, nevermind the proper James Bond smokescreens that this implies.
I'm getting the RS4 engine in the next 2 months hopefully, so then I'll start prepping it for the upgrades, K16/K24 hybrids, tubular EMs, dual 3" downpipes, modified intake piping, injectors, fuel pump, dual FMIC and so on, and then I'll swap it in once it's ready to go.
Too bad it's only stock turbos that are in now and too bad it's an engine out job to get at them...
Well the job is not to bad. The bolts from engine to gearbox are all the same as on the S2. But all the ***** surrounding it makes it time consuming. Aswell as the sheir size of the thing. The engine is BIG compared to an IL5. Acces to the turbo is zero to nothing. The thing that is neat is that the engine loom comes out with the engine. So disconnect it at the fuse box and take it out.
We had a good time being a grease monkey again (with hangover)
Cheers
